Elsa Marie D'Silva's dollop of wisdom

(You are reading this under the categories of Stay home Stay safe & Perspectives)

If you don’t come out learning something new from this lockdown, then, not time, but discipline is the issue, proclaimed a post on Instagram.

While we all have and most importantly are allowed to stay focused and make our way through this lockdown at our own pace, sometimes, a dollop of inspiring wisdom can propel us in unimaginable ways.

We asked Elsa D Silva, what according to her, is the top tip to stay focused during this lockdown?

Before we go further, let us properly introduce Elsa to you through her phenomenal work of Safecity and the Red Dot foundation.

ElsaMarie D’Silva is the Founder & CEO of Red Dot Foundation (India) and President of Red Dot Foundation Global (USA). Its platform Safecity, crowdsources personal experiences of sexual violence and abuse in public spaces. Since Safecity started in December 2012, it has become the largest crowd map on this issue in India and abroad.

As you can imagine, given her work Elsa dedicates most of her time travelling around the globe and if this lockdown had not been in effect, she would have been travelling right now as Elsa puts it by herself in this beautifully written medium article;

Her medium piece also describes the ways Elsa has adopted to successfully navigate her usual way of living that requires her being constantly on the road to now spending quality time at home; how people of her organisations are extending support to each other through virtual collaboration and how her past learnt lessons from 2012 have become useful tools right now.

So, what is THE dollop of inspiring wisdom, THE top tip that Elsa has to share with us?

She delights us with this simple message,

“Count your blessings and think of 5 positive things in your life because truly there are others worse off than you. Other than that, stay present and take it one day at a time.”

Simple yet profound isn’t it? Perhaps even, as easy as it sounds, this requires actual mindfulness to practice without getting lost in our worries, distractions and emotional roller coasters.
